Social Media Trends vs. Creating a Home You Love

Social Media Trends vs. Creating a Home You Love

If you enjoy reading trend articles, watching TikTok videos where 'interior designers' reveal the ins and outs of 2025, or scrolling through Instagram to see before-and-after transformations, chances are you’ve caught yourself eyeing your own home and thinking about how it could be upgraded.

In a sea of social media posts, it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing your home to others and doubting the style choices you’ve made and love because they appear on ‘out of trend’ lists.

However, you don’t always need to redecorate. The likelihood is that a bold and bright bathroom you saw on social media would never have crossed your mind if you prefer neutral tones.

The style of your home should reflect your personal taste, not someone else’s. By analysing your space one room at a time, you can recognise its potential and make small tweaks that transform its feel, rather than resorting to entire renovations.

Create a Hub for Socialisation

The prediction that kitchens will return as the heart of the home, combined with inflation leading to less disposable income, has sparked the revival of at-home dinner parties.

This romanticisation of staying at home has been widely shared on social media, with incredible themed tablescapes for people hosting friends and family, as well as comedic reels showcasing influencers “enjoying their mortgage” by staying in.

Any dining room or kitchen can become a hub for socialisation. Rather than buying new home accessories to make the room feel different, consider other decorative items throughout your home to see if they’ll work. A vase of flowers from your bedroom? Try it on your dining table. Or perhaps you have a cupboard or box of candles that could make a beautiful centrepiece. The trick is to look at the homeware you already own but may have forgotten about — it could even inspire you to finally declutter your garage or loft.

For a timeless décor choice, consider adding panels that serve as a permanent backdrop for every dinner party.

They’ll create a focal point that works seamlessly with the room, rather than becoming a seasonal impulse purchase that requires storage for the rest of the year.

Transform Your Bathroom with Simple Updates

There becomes a point when calming selfcare routines filmed in pristine and immaculate bathrooms stop becoming aspirational. Rather than fulfilling their purpose of making you want to relax and unwind, they case you to want to completely redesign your bathroom.

A full renovation can be expensive, time-consuming, and may not be necessary if your bathroom suite is still in good condition.

Small updates can make a huge difference in transforming a bathroom. Adding a fresh mirror above the sink, upgrading to colourful or patterned towels, or swapping out a plain shower screen for something with a fluted design.. Don’t forget about plants—they’re not just pretty to look at, but also great for absorbing excess moisture.

Another easy way to refresh the space is by adding MDF panelling to the lower half of the walls, especially if you’re happy with the painted or wallpapered look you already have.

For shower cubicles where the tiles are starting to show wear or are a constant struggle to keep mould-free, applying panelling directly over the tiles is an easy fix. Whether choosing a colour that matches the rest of the bathroom or something completely different, it’s a great way to add a bit of character and a fresh touch to the space.

2025 is the year to fall in love with your home and stay true to your own taste, rather than letting an algorithm convince you that your design choices are outdated. While it’s always fun to try new styles and participate in trends, the line between enjoying design and enjoying consumption is becoming blurred.

You want to create a home you love, and in doing so, you should be mindful of the purchases you make. After all, the most important thing about your home is the memories you create within it.
