Step inside Owain’s 'tangerine-ery,' a room previously described as a 'dumping ground' for storage, complete with a leaking roof. The redesign of the room was inspired by orangeries, which are often referred to as 'home extensions' and serve a similar purpose to conservatories. They provide a bright, sun-filled space that expands the living area.
Inspired by the aesthetic of orangeries, Owain decided to transform this oversized storage cupboard into a 'tangerine-ery' due to the room’s small size.
The first priority was giving the ceiling and floor some much needed TLC: repairing the leaking roof and painting the floor with durable, hardwearing paint. Once the structural work was done, it was time to turn attention to the walls.
Having panels in mind from the get-go, Owain decided to apply them to the walls rather than trying to tackle the half-painted and scuffed surfaces. The white PVC surrounding the doors and windows was then painted black to complement the black felt between the panels.
The rest of the styling choices continued to complement the room’s overall aesthetic with pops of black, mixed with natural elements such as a rattan rug and an overhead lamp.
Not forgetting the most important choice for styling a room inspired by orangeries – using soft furnishings and decorative items to add pops of orange to the space. The nature-inspired style was completed with the addition of more plants.
